Project Gambia
The Ellis and Riley families are driving two Land Rover Defenders to Gambia in West Africa to raise money for charity. The two charities involved are The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and a school in Brufut, Gambia. The are setting off on the 7th December.
Their progress is being tracked courtesy of Alpha Micro Vehicle tracking devices, one of which will be in each vehicle. Keep up with their progress here.
Microsoft Channel Crossing
A team of Microsoft employees based in Reading crossed the English Channel to raise money for the Thames and Chiltern Ambulance Trust. The challenge was the first GPS/GPRS enabled crossing of the Channel which was able to be viewed live online for the whole length of the event. The live tracking of the challenge was made possible using hardware and software provided by Dundee and Basingstoke based company Alpha Micro Systems Ltd. This challenge was the first time the company has been involved in sports event tracking, a slight departure from its day-to-day business producing vehicle and personal tracking systems.
